Cogges Manor Farm - Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child have to be?

Once your child is crawling around and can explore the site freely they are ready to start Hedgehog Club, about 9 months old. They can keep coming to the club until they are 4 years old. You are welcome to bring babies as the site is accessible with a push chair, you do not have to pay for a baby to come with you.

What is a typical session like?

We usually start with a story to set the theme for the session- but there is no pressure to sit and listen if your child is keen to get stuck in straight away. Each week there will be a different nature-based theme with related activities to get involved in.

Part way through the session we light the fire and cook a snack to share with everyone. These could be marshmallows, cheese wraps, pop corn, the list of yummy fire cooked snacks is quite long. At this time there is also tea, coffee, squash, hot chocolate and homemade biscuits for everyone.

How long is the session and how much does it cost?

The sessions are 2 hours long- 9.30 to 11.30am. If you book for the whole term, they are £12 each or you can pay as you go and book only for the sessions you are able to come to. These cost £14. You do need to have a Cogges season ticket or pay for a day visit to Cogges. When Cogges is open, March to October, you are then able to stay after the session and have a picnic, feed the animals and play on the play area.

What should we wear?

There is a what to wear section on the website. Please dress both of you in suitable, comfortable outdoor clothing depending on the season. In autumn/winter lots of layers with a waterproof top layer, hats, gloves, etc. Wear wellies or other outdoor, waterproof shoes.

In summer please wear hats and apply sun cream. Lightweight long-sleeved tops and trousers so that you and your child are protected from scratches and stings. Covered shoes to protect feet and toes from catching on sticks etc.

I would also suggest bringing a change of clothes and a large plastic bag for all the muddy stuff at the end!

Where do I park?

Please park in the main Cogges car park. When Cogges is open- March to October- you will need to come through the main entrance. From November to February you will come through the white gate near the church.

Will a session ever be cancelled?

The sessions will go ahead in all weathers. The only time they will be cancelled is if high winds are forecast or other unforeseen circumstances. If we have to cancel you will be notified and full refunds will be made for the session.

If you are booked and cannot attend the session, please let me know so we can offer your place to someone else.I am afraid that we are only offering refunds in exceptional circumstances. If you are unable to attend your booked session please see if a friend would like it.
