The Hedgehog Club Code of Conduct

At Hedgehog Club we have a code of conduct which covers some really important rules we need to follow to keep ourselves and our environment safe.

THE GOLDEN RULES

  1.      Look after yourself

  2.      Look after one another

  3.      Look after our forest and planet

RESPECT FOR NATURE

At Hedgehog Club we are learning about our environment and what impact we have upon it. Some activities will use natural materials. When we do this we will use the rule of 5 - if there are 5 flowers/leaves etc you can take one but leave the rest for the insects.

LEAVE NO TRACE

At the end of the session please make sure we take all our rubbish with us in order to minimise the impact we are having on the environment.

WORKING WITH TOOLS

At times we may use some tools at Hedgehog Club – knives, saws or loppers. All these activities have been risk assessed and will be supervised by myself or assistant  1:1.

FIRE

When we have a fire it will be within the fire circle and and will be supervised by the session leader. Do not run around or near the fire when it is lit. This activity will have been risk assessed and all appropriate health and safety equipment will be used.

A lit fire will not be left unattended at any point. Any fire will always be safely extinguished by the Forest School Leader.

PICKING UP AND PLAYING WITH STICKS

Children are encouraged to play with sticks but while doing so they need make sure they think about how close they are to other children. Long sticks should be transported like a wizard’s staff to keep them from unintentionally (or otherwise!) poking other children. Longer sticks can be dragged or carried with a child at both ends. Sticks must not be thrown, nor should children be allowed to pull them from living trees.
